At Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi – Directed by Sophie Boutros

In a Lebanese village, Therese joyfully prepares for an overnight visit of her daughter’s suitor and his parents. She shares the happy news with pictures of her brother who died 20-years-ago in the Lebanese-Syrian war, but is still alive in every corner of her life, reminding her of her hatred towards Syrians. The guests are at her doorstep: they are Syrian! This proposal will only happen over her dead body.

Sophie Boutros graduated with a Bachelor degree in Directing for TV and Film at the Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts in Lebanon, in 1997.
For 6 years after her graduation, Sophie directed several TV shows in Lebanon and Dubai.
For 9 years, she directed music videos for A-list Arab singers like Rashid El Majid, Nancy Ajram, Abdul Majid Abdallah, Nawal Kuweitye among others, starting in 2003 with Julia Boutros’ hit “La B’ahlamak”.

In 2017, Sophie released her first feature film, as a co-writer/director in Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, UAE, Kuweit and Palestine, following a World Premiere at the Dubai International Film Festival 2016.  “Mahbas” made waves of success, was watched by more than 120,000 viewers and is still touring the world in festivals.
Sophie had a major role in creating the Mohammed Bin Rashid School for Communication at AUD, where she has been working for 9 years. She is now the Manager of Student Affairs and Communication and a part-time instructor, teaching Writing and Production.
